Gospel
“Gospel” means good news. When believers speak of the Gospel, they are referring to the God New of Jesus Christ! This is the best news you will ever hear.
This good news is found in the Bible. The Bible is the very word of God, and is perfect, without error, and completely sufficient for everything in this life!
This story starts with God and is about God. He is Holy. He is completely separate and perfect. Isaiah 6:3 says,”“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” This God is also the Creator of everything including this earth, the heavens, and man. The very first vers of the Bible say, “ In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” In the beginning, everything was perfect and good.
But this story takes a turn when Man begins to question God. The first human eventually sins and rebels against God’s prefect plan. Sin is missing the mark of God’s holy and perfect standard. Sin has infected every human. If you are honest, you must have felt this burden of sin, especially in our selfish choices. Romans 3:23 says,”all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Later in the book of Romans is continues, “For the wages of sin is death.” This doesn’t sound like Good news but then this story takes another turn!
God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to live among us as a human. You have heard the Christmas story about Jesus being Born in a manger but this God’s redemptive plan unfolding. Matthew 1:23 says, "“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).” Jesus lived the perfect life. In fact he was the only person to walk this earth to be completely without sin.
Jesus’ life is documented in the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Throughout His perfect and sinless life on earth, Jesus demonstrated that He was the Son of God, the Son of Man, and the Messiah.
At the end of Jesus’ life, we was the ultimate demonstration of God’s Love. Jesus was crucified on the cross where God poured out his wrath on Jesus. He treated Jesus as the sinner. On the cross, Jesus became the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Second Corinthians 5:21 says, “For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
After being crucified, Jesus was buried in a tomb, but three days later, He rose from the dead! He conquered death and sin!
Because of this ultimate act of love, we can be forgiven of our sins. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Colossians 1:13–14 says, “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
What will you do with this good news? You can reject it, or you can respond with faith and repentance, trusting in Jesus for your salvation. Romans 10:9 says, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Repentance means turning away from your sin and turning to the Savior, Jesus Christ. When you do this, you begin to live your life by God’s grace. This grace is a free gift from God that allows us to live a life that honors and pleases Him.
Then, in the blink of an eye, this life will be over, and you will spend eternity with Jesus! Philippians 3:20–21 says, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.”
